Moon Blood

I co-created this performance film for BonFire 2021, an online festival ran by Beltane Fire Society. Moon Blood takes its inspiration from the earliest of rituals around menstrual bleeding – entering a red tent or cave to bleed and dream together. Working with the blood the performers feel its power and awaken their inner fire, connecting deeply with their inner cycles, the cycle of the moon and the birth-death-rebirth cycle of renewal that guides the seasons.

Storm Greenwood – Devastated (Official Music Video)

The music video for ‘Devastated’ is a collaboration between myself and musician Storm Greenwood. The video takes the protagonist through a series of elemental ritual phases: 1) Air – inhabiting and mourning 2) Earth – descending and surrendering 3) Water – cleansing and resting 4) Fire – healing and emerging. The colour palette is reflective of the phases of a bruise: Red, green and yellow and the images are an amalgamation of our shared and separate inspirations and experiences — our love for the Pre-Raphaelites, my interest in Scottish folklore and performance work with Beltane Fire Society and Storm’s own ritual processes, many of which I employed in seeking to heal from the heartbreak that devastated me. The video was filmed over a weekend in September 2019 in Blackford Hill and Harlaw Reservoir in Scotland on a Pentax K-20 DSLR.

Summer Solstice Fire Spinning Performance

This is a short performance film I made of some members of Edinburgh Fire Club, fire spinning on the beach at sunrise on Summer Solstice. The club held a community event for the solstice at Portobello Beach, and I went along to film their fire performances as the sun rose over the ocean!

Anuttara Ashram – Aarti to the sacred Nass river

I made this as a promotional film for Anuttara Ashram, in BC, Canada. At the ashram we did this sacred ritual every morning, in the dark, in the dead of winter, before beginning our morning yoga and meditation. Aarti, one of the teachers at the ashram, recreated the ritual on the banks of the Nass river, which ran through the property, as the snow fell. She lit fire and insence and sent an offering of flowers away down the river to give thanks.
